New birds for the list
Hey all, Some recent sightings that are new for Autumn Beyond. The highlight was definitely Oriental Cuckoo, though our views were nowhere near as good as some people have been getting at this site lately. Cheers, Chris Sanderson Lesser Crested Tern Amity Point, North Stradbroke 3/04/2012 Varied Tr...

A start (for me) for 2012
Hi all, I've been so busy with work that last Saturday was my first attempt at birding in SEQ this year. Below are the birds I think are new for Autumn. Further afield, my highlight so far has been a Little Curlew at Bowen, no doubt a little lost! Cheers, Chris Great Crested Grebe Lake Clarendon 17...

More Painted Snipes!
Wow, what a great record (except for the bird, which I hope recovers!) This has really been a red-letter year for Australian Painted Snipe, with individuals reported from all over the place. I think the individual count for the year for the whole country is well in excess of a hundred birds. I'm hop...

BBBQ and others
Hi all, A few nice sightings from the weekend, some of which are new for the season. One of my co-workers, Lindsay Popple, found a pair of White-browed Woodswallows at the Metroplex Wetlands near the Gateway Bridge late Sunday afternoon. I had some luck with friends at Inskip Point, with BBBQ and Be...

Border Ranges NP last weekend
Hi all, Last weekend I headed down to the Border Ranges NP and had a successful weekend pottering around in the rainforest looking for things. I've added a few extra sundy sightings as well to help get the list kickstarted. Cheers, Chris Sanderson Black-necked Stork Beaudesert Rd between Beaudesert...

Additions for Winter Beyond
Hi all, I've had a good month for birds, and a few are still additions for the Winter Beyond list. Probably my best bird is another Swift Parrot, this time at Cunningham's Gap. I also managed some photos of a Sooty Owl at Manorina Rest Area near Mt Nebo on the weekend .://aussiebirding.wildiaries.co...

New Zealand Storm-petrel, Southport pelagic
Hi all, Huge news from the weekend Southport pelagic, observers saw what was most likely a New Zealand Storm-petrel! Sadly I wasn't among those on board, as they also had an Antarctic Prion, two amazing birds for QLD. Some photos from Rob Morris of the NZSP: .://bird-o.com/2011/06/19/4423/ Regards, ...

Swift Parrots, Girraween (May record)
Hi all, a huge apology is in order, I had this record only a day before a long trip away, and didn't have time to get the news out to everywhere. A few of us made a trip to Old Wallangara Rd towards the end of May and found both Turquoise Parrot and Swift Parrot near the corner where the vineyard is...

White-cheeked Honeyeater?
Hi Kay, White-cheeked Honeyeater would be pretty unusual at Durakai, they are normally found in coastal heath and wet forest. Could the bird have been a New-holland Honeyeater? That would still be unusual but more likely. I'm also aware of at least one White-fronted Honeyeater record from the site, ...

New birds for Autumn
Hi all, I haven't been getting much birding in this year, but I have some scattered additions to the list for Autumn Beyond. It's been a good month for me, with South Island Pied Oystercatcher and White-fronted Honeyeater (neither of which were found by me, but I did manage to see both!), and then c...

Some birds for Autumn
Hi all, a few eclectic additions to the Autumn Beyond list that I've picked up during work or the very few daytrips I've managed since the floods. Hopefully this Easter break may prove more productive, if the rain stays away! Regards, Chris Sanderson Striated Heron Cleveland 20/04/2011 Bush Stone-c...

Wandering Tattler
Hi Nick, could your bird possibly have been a Wandering Tattler? They are more frequently seen feeding on rocks than Grey-tailed Tattler, and are very difficult to separate. The calls are different though. There's a useful comparison table here: .://birdsqueensland.org.au/downloads/tattlers_comparis...

Maroochy River and Buderim Forest Park
Hi all, I spent the afternoon at a restaurant on the Maroochy River on Sunday. The tide was just receding after the peak, and an exposed sandbar played host to a cast of hundreds of terns and shorebirds. It was quite a sight and a great show to accompany a great lunch. I finished the day with a quic...
