Square-tailed Kite, Queen's Park, Toowoomba
Sunday 10/3/2013
Wide-spread and insistent raptor alert from the edge of the Toowoomba Botanic Gardens let us to spot the bird circling above Queen's Park, soaring, then flapping. Clear look at it. Observed for several minutes. With Rod Hobson, we had plenty of time to check the features.

satin bowerbirds in backyard
Two male and four female satin bowerbirds in our, and neighbours', backyards on Saturday 2 June 2012. Males seemed to be checking out the blue pegs on the neighbour's hills' hoist, while the females seemed to be eating what appeared to be fungi, or some kind of tubular vegetables.

Peregrine Falcon, Queens Park, Toowoomba
5/5/2012
11am
Peregrine circled above the Botanic Gardens, flapping to gain lift until very high, then rowed north at a great clip before stooping at speed and disappearing from view, perhaps onto the head of some unsuspecting pigeon or wandering backyard Chihuaha.

Peregrine Falcon, Queens Park, 5.20pm, 22/2/2012
Spectacular sight, low through trees against dark grey skies, lit by western light, most impressive, complete panic among the Queens Park bird community (all other humans and dogs oblivious).

Brown Thornbill, backyard
Backyard, Mary Street, Toowoomba, gleaning insects in Ivory Curl Tree, a new species for my backyard. Saturday 3/2/2012.
I usually have enormous trouble with thornbills, but this one was calling constantly and I took careful note and listened to the tapes. We have Yellow-rumped about usually.

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos, Queens Park, Toowoomba
Three Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos feeding in a pine tree in Queen's Park today, 5.30pm, seemed to be two adults and a juvenile. Lots of stripped pine cones on the ground that look to be several days old, so maybe they are hanging around.

Peregrine falcon dining on crested pigeon, Queens Park.
Male peregrine falcon hanging around Queen's park, late afternoon. Constant alarm call, caught a glimpse of it flying between camphor laurel trees before we found an eviscerated and headless crested pigeon on ground close to where we saw it flying, which I'm assuming was its meal. 5.30pm Wed 14/12/2...

Southern Boobook nesting (?), Queens Park
Southern Boobook sitting on edge of a hollow in camphor laurel in Queen's Park very close to the western end of the Botanical Gardens Christmas lights "spectacular", calling with a low, constant, fast "oom" sound (no, definitely not a tawny frogmouth). Could be nesting there by t...
