Bell Miner

Checked out the Bell Miners below Spring Bluff railway station this afternoon. This previously unknown colony, which we discovered during last October's Species Census, appears to be well and truly established. A concern with Bell Miners is the dieback they may cause over time .://..bmad.com.au/abou...

Bush Stone-curlew, bush-hen and others

Some nice birds around home lately including first records of Varied Sittella and White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike for our property. A significant record was a couple of Bush Stone-curlews calling on dusk in the vicinity of Koreelah St, Upper Lockyer on 10/2. Thanks to the Caudell family for reporting th...

Re: Wanted List

Thanks for sharing your sightings.

Cressbrook's outside the local survey area. Along the New England Highway, the northern limit is between Cabarlah and Geham. Use Reuschle Rd as the landmark.

Cheers,
Mick

Six additions from the October Species Census

Some nice birds were seen during the recent species census (23-26 October) including a pair of White-eared Monarchs in Redwood Park near the bottom creek crossing, and a family of Spotted Quail-thrush (at least 4 birds, including 2 juvenile birds) along White Mountain Rd, northeast of Murphys Creek....

Re: Spring 2015 arrivals

My first Dollarbird this Spring today, between Harlaxton and Mt Kynoch. Peter Vernon informed me the Dollarbirds arrived at his Hirstglen property on 17th Oct and have taken up same nest site as in previous years. Kev Williams reported one at Highfields about a week ago. Peter Vernon also had his fi...

Added Brown Cuckoo-dove to the yard list today; a single female in our Leopard tree this morning. That brings the list up to 95 species in just over a year. Here's the species list so far... Re: Spring 2015 arrivals

Kev Williams and I recorded 44 species in the bottom end of Redwood Park this morning including Rufous Fantail, Spectacled Monarch and Leaden Flycatcher. No sign of Black-faced Monarchs though. Other nice birds were Regent Bowerbird, lots of White-naped Honeyaters—including juveniles, Brown-headed H...

Re: Spring 2015 arrivals

The Sacred Kingfishers are nesting in the yard in the same arboreal termite mound as last year. Tawny Frogmouths nesting in the same tree as the kingfishers, in the same spot as last year too! Recorded my first Koel for the season yesterday (3/10). Spangled Drongo and a pair of Great Crested Grebes ...
