While walking through bushland at White Mountain today, the pathway opened out at the top of a gorge and below a brown goshawk took off, rose to treetop level, flew down the gorge a little way before landing high in a tree on the far side.
Thanks, Nick

Tatler
Hey Chris! Thanks for your advice. I always stand to be corrected as I'm still learning the trade. Dad and I did hear the call and I decided it sounded like the description given in Pizzey and Knight, that is a strident klee, klee, klee, klee, tooee, tooee. I have to admit that I've only knowingly s...

A few from the Gold Coast
Today (26/3), at Snapper Rocks (near Point Danger) I was showing Dad how to feed prawns to the black sea anenomes when a Grey-tailed tatler came to within about three metres of us. Out from Point Danger were some Australasian Gannets pursuing a shoal of fish, while over the Tweed River were two Whis...

Single STK
Late Wednesday afternoon (9/3) a single STK made an appearance over Warwick. This time it flew from approximately near where Wallace Street crosses the Condamine River, over Wood Street, down Dragon Street to Bracker Road (near where we saw our first for this season), before deciding to search for f...

Black-necked Stork
On the return bus trip from TAS Sport in Brisbane today, I noticed that the Black-necked Stork was back at one of our favourite watering holes.

Square-tail Kite
A STK was hovering above the treetops behind The SCOTS PGC College Junior School today at morning tea. I then realised a pattern was emerging. Two years ago on a late Saturday morning in late February Mum and I saw two STKs courting near the Equestrian Centre. Mid to late February last year, we saw ...

Favourite Warrill View dam
On our way back from Brizzy this afternoon, Mum pulled into a side road next to our favourite Warrill View dam as we were looking for the black-necked stork. We easily spotted: black swans masked lapwings pacific black ducks wood ducks black-winged stilts black-fronted dotterels little pied cormoran...

Square-tail Kites
Yesterday late morning I saw my first pair of STKs soaring above Wood St, near the Buckaroo Motel in Warwick. A couple of years ago while near SCOTS I saw a pair of STKs courting. Let's see if it happens this year too. I'm also hanging out for the Black Falcons to return! (Watch this space!) Thanks,...

Black-necked Stork
Travelled from Warwick to Brisbane again this afternoon (26/2) and still the black-necked stork was in one of my favourite swamps, the one just to the north of Warrill View on the eastern side of the Cunningham Highway. The Yellow-billed spoonbill which had been closer to Willowbank was gone though....

Australian Hobby
Today going to and coming back from Toowoomba we saw the usual Brown Falcon near the Nobby turnoff. But more excitingly on the return journey to Warwick we saw an Australian Hobby near the Gatton turnoff just past Greenmount East. Over approximately the last year we've seen one here twice before tod...

White-winged Chough
Roger's Creek Road, heading towards Wingara, always guarantees WWC, and heading out to my friend Tristan's property this Saturday afternoon (5/2) didn't let us down either.
Thanks, Nick

Yellow-billed Spoonbill
Nearly forgot! Again coming back from TAS sport in Brisbane today, I noticed a new but temporary wetland opposite the lawn cemetary on the south western side of Willowbank. Standing supremely there today was a Yellow-billed Spoonbill. First decent bird we've seen in that area.
Thanks, Nick
