Re: Spring 2015 arrivals

Well Michael, you beat us by about a week with your first Sacred Kingfisher! Everything else here is courting and nesting like mad, including a pair of Leaden Flycatchers putting on a performance every day - and the Black Swans that nested here last March, have built another nest next to the old one...

Rose Robin, Cotton Pygmy-goose

First Rose Robin of the year turned up at Abberton on 10th April, 2014. I'd say we've had at least three individual birds since then, including one which has been present for about a week now. A party of 7 Cotton Pygmy Geese arrived on the creek in front of the house on 4th May, 2014 and have been h...

Re: Retrospective Summer Within 2013/14

Yes, fair question! It was a Varied. Had White-winged here on 2nd Dec and Varied on 9th - only the fourth Varied Triller for Abberton. Renewed plantings since the flood are already making a restorative difference to the place. Can't say that is the sole reason, but e.g. Rufous Fantail and Black-face...

Retrospective Summer Within 2013/14

Thanks Michael for putting up the Wanted List. The following are the first "Summer Within" sightings from Abberton for spp still showing on that list. It should serve to cut the Wanted list back to something we can all then look closer at. Plumed Whistling-Duck 16 Dec 2013 Black Swan 14 De...

Satin Flycatcher and more

Apologies for taking some time to get to the new Forum. I'll work from Wanted Lists on 2014 Challenge, Summer 2013/14 and Autumn 2014 to update sightings from Abberton (and elsewhere in the club's primary study area). Recent Abberton sightings include a stunning female Satin Flycatcher yesterday aft...

Pacific Bazas nesting

Congratulations Barb!

Bazas nested in the same tree in our garden for 5 consecutive years, some time ago now.

You can look forward to learning lots of different contact calls as they bring food to the nest, or announce that they're about to change over.

Great fun ahead!
