Sightings around Stoneleigh - Pittsworth

This morning on the way to work 7.50 am Friday 24/2/2012 I observed a flock of 27 Chestnut-breasted Mannikins feeding on seed heads and sitting on the fence near "The Rockies", a well known creek crossing and swimming hole not far from home, which were joined while I was there by another f...

Y/T Black-Cockatoos

G'day all, Information from a mate in Toowoomba who lives next to the City Golf Course. Last Sunday (19/2/2012) at about 5pm he saw a flock of Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo's numbering 30 to 40 in some tall gums along the edge of one of the fairways. He remarked that it was the largest number of this...

Pelican at Stoneleigh

Driving to work this morning (3/02/2012) I saw a single Australian Pelican on a small farm dam near home. I stopped to watch it and it took off and flew in a westerly direction.

Another Burton's L/L

I found another Burton's Legless Lizard on the road on the way home yesterday 10/11/11 at Stoneleigh. This one had been cut in half by a car running over it but was still alive. It was a male.

Burton's Legless Lizard

We found a dead Burton's Legless Lizard at home (Stoneleigh) last weekend 5/11/2011. It was a female with eggs. She had been run over on the road near the house.

Such a shame. It is the only one I have ever seen.

South of Pittsworth today

Went for a drive to a horse stud on the Pittsworth/Back Creek Road today, pulled up under a group of trees along their driveway and was surprised at the number of Rufous Songlarks on the electricity wires in that area and along the road back to Pittsworth. There were also a few Spiny-cheeked Honeyea...

Buff-banded Rail - Pittsworth & Brookstead

I was delivering some chemical to a client on the Condamine North Branch yesterday (1/11/11) and while crossing a flooded dirt road I spotted an adult Buff-banded Rail as it walked out from behind a tree in the swamp next to the road. When I left there and was driving down Yandilla Street into Pitts...

Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater

A new bird for my property list this morning 30/10/2011. The first time I have seen a Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater at "Russell-Ridge" Stoneleigh. One bird was in the grevillea near the kitchen.

Lovely :)

King Parrots

This morning I saw the first King Parrot's here at Russell-Ridge for about nine months.

Great to see them in the yard again.

Rufous Songlark

I was delivering some product to an organic farmer near Mt Tyson on Monday (25/10/11) and while talking to the farmer I heard and then saw my first Rufous Songlark for the season. The singing reminded me of the thousands I saw at this time last year out at Bowra. Also, there were lots of Spiny-cheek...

Y/b Spoonbill

I was out between Millmerran and Inglewood yesterday (18/10/11) and saw two Y/b Spoonbills on a farm dam near Millmerran. Also, about twenty Plumed Whistling-ducks in a waterlogged paddock at Pampas.

Behind the shed

The Chough family were foraging around the shed this morning as I drove out. I pulled up and watched them for a few minutes and had a bit of a laugh at their shenanigans.

It's a good life.

Started the nest

I went down to feed the chooks this morning and saw the pair of W/T Gerygone's in the area. I went over to their tree and saw nothing but then looked over to the dead Hakea next to it and there was the beginnings of a new hanging nest. I began to whistle and the two Gerygone's came over check me out...

White-throated Gerygone's nesting

Those who came to the outing here at Russell-Ridge in May would remember the intricate W/T Gerygone nest near the aviaries. A couple of days ago I was coming back from the chook pen when I noticed two W/T Gerygone's in the same tree. It appeared that they were looking for their old nest, which had d...

Hanging around

When I got home from work yesterday (12/10/11) the Choughs were walking across the driveway.

This afternoon (13/10/11) I could hear the Choughs talking to each other in the scrub close to the house.

Cheers :)
