Things are hopping on the orno front up here. I took some friends to a favoured spot on Sunday - a farewell smoko in the bush for Jo Wieneke who is moving down to Evan's Head. We saw a couple of barking owls (again), both monarchs, scarlet and black-chinned honeyeaters, sitellas, nankeen herons, black-throated finches, restless flycatchers, lots of little bronze cuckoos, fairy & large-billed gerygones, white-browed robins, rufous songlarks, red-backed kingfisher ….. and one of our number heard a little grassbird. List for the morning was 90+ despite a major local absence of water birds. The autumn songlark migration (and their mates)got here the week before Easter.
