A Tintinnabulation of Bell Miners

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

I was driving back from Rockmount today via Flagstone Creek. About 50 metres along the Upper Flagstone Creek Road from its junction with Horsfalls Lane (GDA94 - S27 deg. 36' 57" x E151 deg. 59' 51") I head a tintinnabulation of Bell Miners; howzat for a collective noun? This continued for about 100 metres along the Upper Flagstone Creek Road towards the west of this road's junction with Horsfalls Lane. About here it ceased and didn't take up again for about 4.8 kilometres by road towards the top of the range. Here the calling again became evident and continued up range for about another kilometre where it again ceased. This last section from GDA94 - S27 deg. 37' 46" x E151deg. 57' 30" to GDA94 - S27deg 37' 19" x E151 deg. 57' 01" is the area that the miners have been in permanent and sedentary residence for several years now.

The birds recorded this morning near the junction of Upper Flagstone Creek Road and Horsfalls Lane indicate an expansion albeit a small one, of the species' range in the local area.

Regards,
Rod Hobson

Cheers
