Are the bee-eaters following me?

Migrant arrival dates are always a hot topic, particularly, the spring/summer migrants.

Think you've seen the first for the season? Post details here and let's see if you're right ...

Are the bee-eaters following me?

Post by Mick Atzeni »

I always think of Rainbow Bee-eaters as spring/summer migrants but just about everywhere I've been in the last couple of weeks I've seen them, namely, Ballina, Tweed Heads, Tingalpa (Brisbane bayside). Also been seeing them more frequently around Upper Lockyer, lately, including a small flock today, over home.

Wondering if this is just coincidence, or indicative of a recent winter movement of bee-eaters into SEQ/northern NSW? Or do they remain all year in those coastal areas mentioned? (I don't bird outside the local area much; just ask Rod Hobson  ). I do know bee-eaters may be seen intermittently during the winter months around the Lockyer Valley; just never thought to see if there's a pattern there.

Cheers
