Brown-headed Honeyeater & White-bellied Cuckoo-Shrike

Same rules apply as for the "250 in 2006" Challenge. Seems 250's no pushover locally, especially in a drought! Nevertheless, 250's achievable and will continue to remain our annual target. Report sightings ASAP for everyone's benefit.

And from now on we'll just refer to it as "The Challenge".

Brown-headed Honeyeater & White-bellied Cuckoo-Shrike

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Olive Booth and I picked up around 90 species in the Lockyer this morning including these two for the Challenge:

Brown-headed Honeyeaters - seen in three locations (near Watts Rd turnoff, Murphy's Ck; Thomas Rd, Murphy's Ck; Lockyer Siding Rd, Helidon). I note this species wasn't recorded until 21/5 last year so seems there's a definite influx in autumn, a movement that has never dawned on me until highlighted by these annual Challenges. The question now is when do they clear out?

White-bellied Cuckoo-Shrike - one bird seen along Airforce Rd, Helidon, near the Lockyer Siding Rd turnoff. This has been a reliable area for them but they're not that easy to track down. The distinctive call is often the first clue.
