Wompoo Fruit-Dove, Noisy Pitta (Rod Hobson)

Same rules apply as for the "250 in 2006" Challenge. Seems 250's no pushover locally, especially in a drought! Nevertheless, 250's achievable and will continue to remain our annual target. Report sightings ASAP for everyone's benefit.

And from now on we'll just refer to it as "The Challenge".

Mick,

I'm on a roll - heard a pitta calling in gully below start of the Firetail Walk, Picnic Point at 10.05am today whist loitering around and waiting as Ashdown photographed native bees.

Regards,
Rod H.

Mick,

I saw a single Wompoo yesterday afternoon, 4.20pm at the top end of the scree slope on Table Top's western face. It was feeding in a small fig tree to the right as you descend. The pigeon was with a mob of Figbirds. I watched it for about five minutes and got very close. It appeared quite unconcerned about my presence. I had to pass quite close to it as I descended, which eventually flushed the bird. GPS reading for sighting is 56J - E 402742, N 6948518. No further sign of the Painted Button-Quail yesterday though.

Cheers,
Rod H.
