Koala at Kleinton!!

It's not their fault they don't have feathers! Doesn't make them any less interesting. And just like the birds, it's good to know what species are about locally at any given time.

There's expertise within the club and beyond on most aspects of our local fauna. Let's tap into it.

Koala at Kleinton!!

Post by Brendon & Judi Gray »

Sunday 29 April 2007. A Koala found at our Kleinton Property. A first for this property also. We had been told that Koalas were common in the area up until 5 years ago. This Koala found unwell and taken to Cabarlah wild-life carer and then forwarded onto Australia Zoo for care. Poor thing was thought to be starving from the effects of drought. Will keep the site posted on its progress.

Koala sent to Australia Zoo.

Post by Brendon & Judi Gray »

Unfortunately the Koala that we rescued and that was sent to Australia Zoo had to be euthanised. It was found to have ovarian cancer which was quite devestating - apparently this has been quite common for female Koalas coming in from drought stricken areas. They are unable to explain why this has been occuring in many female Koalas but clearly a very bad effect from the prolonged drought they said. Quite dissapointed it was not a able to be saved, but It was saved from a long painful death. Australia Zoo were wonderful, I don't think people realize how many animals they help and the immense cost associated with doing this.
