Michael Wood rang today to say he saw an immature Powerful Owl
at very close range along the creek near the second boardwalk on the Ferny Gully track this morning (16/12). This was not the same bird he reported recently in the same area, which was an adult.
He also saw the White-eared Monarch again around 9.20am coming into bathe at the waterhole below the bridge at the bottom end of Redwood Pk.
Thanks Mick!

Two immature birds
Two immature birds were seen today in the same area Michael Wood mentioned along the Ferny Gully Circuit in Redwood Park. It has been many years since I've seen a Powerful Owl in Redwood so it was a real thrill to find two young birds.
I was accompanied by Finnish visitor Esa Hohtola and past member Steve Burke who was down on holidays from Mt Isa. A lifer for Esa who managed some decent shots. Some great ammunition for Steve (only his second sighting) when he gets back to his birding mates in Mt Isa!
Thanks to Michael Wood for the timely information.
