Redwood Park Record of Noisy Piita

How many species can we collectively record during 2008? Can we better the past two years? Can we reach 250?? Same rules as previous years. Good luck!

Redwood Park Record of Noisy Piita

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

Yesterday afternoon about 4.00pm, aside to getting very wet I also got a Noisy Pitta in Redwood Park. I saw a single bird on the floor of the dry vine scrub on the Ferntree Gully Walk at 56J - 400308E, 6950736N. The pitta was just in the ecotone of the vine scrub with the dry eucalypt woodland.

Only about 50 metres on into the woodland I flushed a pair of Wongas from the track. Brown Cuckoo-Doves were also fairly commom in the park this day, especially towards its Bridge Street entrance. The cuckoo-doves were calling very frequently as well.

About an hour or so later into my walk from the pitta I saw a female Brown Goshawk being harried by a troupe of Noisy Miners along Stevenson Street at 56J - 400127E, 6949431N.

Regards,
