Painted Honeyeater- 5/10/06 - near Jondaryan (Brian Morris)

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Brian Morris reported:
Went out to the Oakey Golf Club on the 5th; windy day which made birding a little unpleasant and difficult since we depend so much on spotting movement. Had a brief sighting of the Painted HE perched but had better views of it in flight with what I have since discovered is its habit of flying rather erratically calling all the time. The call is quite distinctive and resembles nothing I have stored in my auditory memory. Heard the call several times later but it had stopped when I reached what I thought was its location
This location is the remnant habitat east of Oakey Golf Course at the Mt Tyson turnoff near Jondaryan.
