Two more for Autumn Beyond - 2008

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

I spent the day around Dalby yesterday, during part of which I did some local birding with Malcolm Wilson and friends from the Lake Broadwater Natural History Association. Malcom is a very accomplished birder and took me to a few of his haunts around Dalby proper. At the end of Sunrise Avenue we found a single Plum-headed Finch. Malcom informs me that recently there have been over 250 of these finches at this site. We were there in heat of the day, which probably accounted for the absence of the main flock on the day.

The additional species for the Autumn list came from a temporary dam on Watt Street on the outskirts of Dalby. Here today we saw a single Glossy Ibis, and yesterday Malcom and others recorded a lone Pink-eared Duck at this site as well.

Regards,
Rod Hobson
