Australian Owlet-nightjar at Flagstone Creek

In 2006, we set up the inaugral Challenge to see if we could collectively record 250 species during the year in the club's survey area. How did we go? Extremely well considering the drought... Plenty of unusual and rare birds .... some great records from non-members too. It was a fascinating year. And a worthwhile exercise which we encourage other groups to follow. See for yourself...

Australian Owlet-nightjar at Flagstone Creek

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

Last Thursday night, about 8.30pm, I saw a single Australian Owlet-nightjar squatted on the trackside on Sutcliffe's Road, Flagstone Creek at GDA 94 - S27deg 37.976', E152deg 01.401'. About an hour later I also heard this species calling closeby to this sighting (same bird?).

I've often heard this bird calling whilst visting friends who live close to this sighting - appears to be a common species in this area.

Regards,
Rod Hobson.
