Square-tailed Kite (Arthur Chapman)

Thanks to replenishing rains in the Lockyer Valley, we're well placed for a record haul in 2009. No excuses why we can't give 250 spp a real shake. Over to you ...

Square-tailed Kite (Arthur Chapman)

Post by Mick Atzeni »

As I didn't even know Arthur, it was a great surprise to receive his email reporting an immature Square-tailed Kite in the area (See below). In a subsequent email Arthur advised he saw it on Kearney Street - in the gap between Kearney Street, Kearney Springs and Kearney street, Top Camp (between Nelson St and E Hayden Street), an area he regularly surveys.

We missed this species last year, so it's a relief to have it already for this year's Challenge. Also good to know non-members are reading the forum and being spurred into action.

Thanks Arthur!
Not sure to whom I should report this record - but it is one on your list you want reported.

-27.6199; 151.9369 - 31 January 2009.

Identified by Jeff Davies (RAOU) and Simon Bennett (DEH, Canberra).

Apologies for quality of photograph, but Battery went flat before I could take another photograph. I will keep an eye out for further sitings.

Other photos - many from around Toowoomba can be seen at .://..flickr.com/photos/arthur_cha ... 570648978/
