Superb Fruit-Dove (John Cross)

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Brisbane DPI&F colleague John Cross photographed a male Superb Fruit-dove in a small tree in his backyard Tuesday afternoon. Didn't know what it was for sure so emailed the pics for ID.

John lives in Newmarket and his neighbour has a large fig tree which the bird flew into.

A great record John! Personally, I've never seen one in SEQ. Locally, I think there are only three records in our survey area including the original one that had died after flying into a window. Apparently this is not uncommon for this species.
