Some additions from the Granite Belt

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

The following additional species recorded by Darren Fielder and Rod Hobson during a recent freshwater fishes and turtle survey in the Stanthorpe-Ballandean area of SEQ, 29-30.04.09:

Brown Quail, Eastern Spinebill - Petrie Crossing, Stanthorpe

Crimson Rosella, Eastern Rosella, Turquoise Parrot, Brown Tree-creeper, - Grassick Lane Weir, Ballandean area.

Australian Reed Warbler, Red Wattlebird, Red-browed Finch, Plum-headed Finch, Double-barred Finch, Chestnut-breasted Mannikin - Somme Road Weir, Ballandean area.

Crested Shrike-tit, Variegated Fairy-wren, White-browed Scrubwren, Yellow-tufted Honeyeater, Diamond Firetail - Marino's Weir, Stanthorpe.

Lots of good animals seen during this survey with the some highlights being a flock of 24 Turquoise Parrots sighted on East Swamp Road, Ballandean on the 30.04.09 and a monster specimen of the Broad-shelled River Turtle (Chelodina expansa) caught in Grassick Lane Weir on that day as well. We also recorded quite a number of the rare and threatened Prickly Bottlebrush (Melaleuca williamsii - used to be Callistemon pungens) in the general area of Petrie Crossing during our work there.

Regards,
Rod Hobson
