Pectoral Sandpiper near Gatton

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Folks

Been a long time between drinks but, along with Russell Jenkins, picked up my second ever Pectoral Sandpiper today (30th Dec). The bird was seen and photographed at Jahnke's lagoon on the corner of the Esk-Gatton Rd and Lake Clarendon Rd.

My only other sighting was courtesy of the late John Izzard back in 1983 at Tomke's Lagoon, W of Lismore.

Cheers

Good to hear, Steve. Which part of the lagoon? A couple of mates have
dipped.

Thanks

Thanks for this report Mick. The bird was still present this morning (Sat),
and I have submitted a photo to Eremaea Birdline. A great tick to ring in
the New Year!
Cheers Steve Murray
Bird was seen this arvo (3/1) by Pat McConnell, Kath O'Donnell and Steve Burke of TBO.

Pectoral Sandpiper at Gatton

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

I caught up with the Pectoral Sandpiper at Janke's Dam today at 12.35pm. Second time lucky, fortunately. I was only there about five minutes when I found the bird in my scope near the western end of the dam. Had great looks for about fifteen minutes. Also saw five Red-necked Stints here today and a Red-capped Plover at Karrasch's Dam, Placid Hills. Plenty of bird activity around the Lockyer Valley at present after all the storms and rain.

Regards,

Also Curlew Sandpiper

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

Forgot to add that there was also a single Curlew Sandpiper at Janke's Dam yesterday with the Pectoral Sandpiper; plus the usual Marsh and Sharp-tailed Sandpipers.

Regards,
Rod Hobson

Update on Pectoral Sandpiper

Post by Mick Atzeni »

The Pectoral Sandpiper has now been seen by numerous birders (would love to know how many), which is great news, and was still present 16/1/10, as reported by Colin Reid on Eremaea.

.://..eremaea.com/BirdlineRecentSi ... Birdline=7

I counted about 15 birders there a couple of weekends ago. The locals must be wondering what the pec is going on! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

For the benefit of all, please let us know how you fare if you go for it.

Cheers
