Brown Geryone plus three others

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Folks

Had to head up the range today and dropped into Redwood Park on the way down around 1pm.

Bit quiet but managed to pick up a few species including a Crested Shrike-tit at close quarters and knee-high, inspecting the ground below. It then flew to ground, picked up what looked like a white spider sack, wedged it in a small fork of a branch about 2m up, punctured the exposed end and ate the contents (never seen that behaviour before).

Also saw a Varied Triller and can add three newies for the year:

Brown Gerygone
Black-faced Monarch
Scarlet Honeyeater

Scarlet Honeyeater also heard at home (Upper Lockyer) this morning - the first sign of them for quite a while. Perhaps the start of a movement back into the area? Bee-eaters also seem to be on the increase; large numbers on the power lines along Cemetery Rd, Murphy's Creek yesterday arvo. Heard overhead at home this morning.

Another addition was a Brown Falcon along the Murphy's Creek Rd, Postman's Ridge end.
