Bush Stone-Curlew

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Another unexpected visitor to "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer, hot on the heels of the Swift Parrots. Yesterday, an immature Bush Stone-Curlew stayed for the day. It had been raining overnight and it looked rather bedraggled. Its presence was given away by the local noisy miners while I was having breakfast on the deck.

No sign of it today.

This is my first sighting of this species in the Lockyer Valley, a new one for "Tiddalac", and only the third bird I have seen in the TBO survey area. Why this species is so scarce locally remains a mystery, considering it seems to be doing fine in Brisbane and other coastal areas.
