Crimson Rosellas at Ravensbourne

Post by sburke »

While hiking at Ravensbourne National Park today I heard what I thought to be Pale-headed Rosellas in the treetops above me. I couldn't see through the canopy at the time. Further along the track I heard the chatter again but this time there was a break in the canopy and I could see a tall Sydney Blue Gum with a nest hole about 30 metres up the trunk. The source of the chatter then became clear. A pair of Crimson Rosellas flew in to check out the potential nest site and stayed in view for a couple of minutes before flying off to look elsewhere.

Other birds seen included -

White-headed Pigeon
Brown Cuckoo-Dove
White-throated Treecreeper
Large-billed Scrubwren
White-browed Scrubwren
Brown Thornbill
Lewin's Honeyeater
Eastern Whipbird
Grey Shrike-thrush
Superb Fairy-wren
Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike

Regards

Steve
