Black Bittern, Great Cormorant

A Black Bittern was hunched alongside a creekbank stone when I arrived at Abberton this-morning (Saturday, 24 September, 2011). Over the next hour or so, it crossed the creek, hunted a little, and spent some time in the remnant of a creekside tree, before flying along the creek downstream. When I checked again from the verandah a few hours later, it was back in the same tree as earlier.

A Great Cormorant flew low along the creek and over the bittern, just a few minutes after I first saw it.

(And just for the record, we've got Water Rats back too).
