Black-faced Monarch

Another new bird for the Russell-Ridge property list. When I pulled up to open the front gate yesterday afternoon I noticed a bird in a small Wilga nearby. I sidled closer and got to within 4 metres of the bird which was quite undisturbed by my presence and allowed me to back up to the car the grab my binnies and return. What I had at first thought was a Shrike-thrush turned out to be a juvenile Black-faced Monarch, the white lore in front of the eye and the clearly demarcated belly marking clearly visible.

I hope this means they breed somewhere nearby, perhaps in Jack's (McEwan S/F) to non-neighbours.

Ciao :)

Steve

I think it's more likely this bird is in passage, heading north, this time of year. A good record for out there though.

Cheers
