Popular Bottle Tree

Post by sburke »

I just had a very enjoyable break from work. Just outside my office in Oakey is a mature Bottle Tree which is frequented regularly by White-throated Gerygones and Yellow-rumped Thornbills. Just a short while ago I heard a variety of calls coming through my window from the aforementioned Bottle Tree so I went out to investigate. These birds were in the tree:

White-throated Gerygone x 1
Yellow-rumped Thornbill x 6
Striped Honeyeater x 2
Willie Wagtail x 1
Striated Pardolate x 1
House Sparrow x 2

And flying overhead at the same time:

Nankeen Kestrel x 1
Black Kite x 1
Whistling Kite x 2

The Kites fan out from the abattoir just up the road.

The birds have gone now. Back to work :(
