Raptors for the morning

Post by sburke »

Morning birders. I had a good morning for raptors today.

Juvenile Collared Sparrowhawk, "Russell-Ridge", Stoneleigh, 6/5/2011
Brown Falcon, Cronin Rd, Mt Tyson, 6/5/2011
Nankeen Kestrels, Cronin Rd, Mt Tyson, 6/5/2011
Black-shouldered Kite, Cronin Rd, Mt Tyson, 6/5/2011
Spotted Harrier, near Aubigney pub, 6/5/2011 (I was only passing) :)

As I was driving through Aubigney a flock of about 200 - 300 Plumed Whistling Ducks flew into the air off a ring tank that I didn't even know existed (water can't be seen from the road), and I was wondering what had set them to flight until I saw the Spotted Harrier flying low over the paddock nearby. He then landed on a fence post and gave good views for a couple of minutes.

The young Collared Sparrowhawk landed on a tap in our garden only about 6 metres from our viewing window. We have a lot of mice around at the moment.

PS. Bar-shouldered Doves on Stoneleigh Rd this morning - 1 x 5, 1 x 4 and 1 x 2 and 2 x Peaceful Doves on our driveway.

Happy birding :D
