Jimboomba-Beaudesert & Lockyer Valley, 17-18 Oct.

Post by Russ Lamb »

On way home from Southport pelagic spent a day birding with Graham Palmer in the Jimboomba and Beaudesert area, graham's home patch. We tallied-up 81 species, focusing mainly on small wetlands, wet paddocks and water storage sites. Highlights were Banded Lapwings on the turf farm at Jimboomba, a pair of Australian Hobby and many Kestrel, and a few Double-barred Finch.
The next day I drove home via Laidley, Gatton and Esk, visiting Lake Dyer, Lake Galletly, Jahenke's Lagoon and Lake Clarendon. Best bird was a Black Falcon flying over Lake Clarendon being harassed by magpies and magpie larks, and there were 8 Glossy Ibis behind the dam wall.

Additions to Spring Beyond are:
Wandering Whistling-Duck Jimboomba 17/10
Pink-eared Duck Jimboomba 17/10
Black Falcon Lake Clarendon 18/10
Banded Lapwing Jimboomba 17/10
Whiskered Tern Jimboomba 17/10
Brush Cuckoo Maleny 8/10
Eastern Koel Maleny 29/9
Cicadabird Maleny 20/10
White-throated Honeyeater Beaudesert 17/10
