Variegated Fairy-wren, Brown Thornbill:McEwan State Forest

Folks,

Yesterday (20.12.11) we spent a very enjoyable and proftable day on a QPWS flora and fauna survey of McEwan State Forest at Stoneleigh via Pittsworth on the eastern Darling Downs. By the end of the day we managed to record one mammal, 37 x birds, five lizards, one snake, three frogs, 11 x butterflies and seven other invertebrates to species level. Two birds recorded were new for the TBO - "Summer Beyond - 2011/12" list viz. Variegated Fairy-wren seen by Mark Weaver and Brown Thornbill recorded by Alastair Silcock. Five new species for the estate were also recorded on the day. They were the Barking Gecko (Underwoodisaurus milii), the skinks (Eulamprus tenuis and Morethia boulengeri), the Red-bellied Black Snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus) and the Long-thumbed Frog (Limnodynastes fletcheri). Hereunder is our complete fauna species list for the survey:
