Long-billed Corellas

Provided flooding rains don't spoil the party again, only slackness will prevent us nailing 230+ species this year.

Long-billed Corellas

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Claire Hanney has provided several images she took 8/4/12 of a flock of Long-billed Corellas (~15) and what appear to be two Galah x Long-billed Corellas hybrids all feasting on bunya pine seeds at her place along Teschner Rd, Woolmer. Claire tells me they turn up at this time every year.

I have a healthy respect for this species' adaptability. Ever since seeing hundreds of them along the river flats at Wacol several years ago I have marvelled at the success of this "feral native" along the eastern seaboard. So too the Little Corella; it always looks totally out of place amidst the hustle and bustle along the Wynnum esplanade (Moreton Bay) when I visit my folks.

What a shame our endangered parrots and cockatoos are far too fussy about where they live, where they breed and what they eat.
