On a recent trip to the New England district of N.S.W, we observed the following birds:-
Fork-tailed Swift on Dumaresq River at Texas on 16th April. Aware that sighting of these birds on an approaching storm front is probably unusual this late in the year, we took particular notice of a very large flock high in the dark storm clouds flying rapidly - almost frenetically - obviously hawking for insects. We are familiar with this species, and while unable tp detect any white on them from the height at which they were flying, the silhouette, shape and manner of flight was, we felt, diagnostic of Fork-tailed Swifts.
We also observed a Brown Treecreeper at this site also.
Saw Musk Lorikeets at Ashford, 39kls. south of Bonshaw on 24th April
and a Flame Robin (beautiful male) at Deepwater 40 kls north of Glen Innes on 3rd May.
We also noted other interesting birds slightly outside of delegated "Beyond Region" during our trip, including White-throated Treecreeper, Turquoise Parrots, White-bellied Cuckoo-Shrike, Crested Shrike-Tits, Jacky Winter,Diamond Dove, Blue Bonnets, Fuscous Honeyeaters, White-browed Babblers, Varied Sitellas and Dusky Woodswallow.
Seen on recent trip to Northern New South Wales
Sightings anywhere within a 250 km radius of Toowoomba, but excluding the local survey area (see above), for the period 1 Mar 2012 - 31 May 2012.
