A few more from Cooby Dam

Post by Wes & Norma Sturdee »

Yesterday 21st October, Wes & I grabbed a couple of hours to check out the birds at Cooby. Among 35 species we also saw:-

A pair of Musk Ducks with the male performing an unusual display of seeming to stand upright on a couple of occasions. We really appreciated article & photos from Al Young & Mike McGoldrick in August newsletter.

We also saw a covey (is this the right word) of 7 Brown Quails on the side of the road about a kilometre from Loveday Cove boomgates. They were not perturbed by our presence and remained stationary for quite a few minutes, affording us a good view.

Included in our list were Australian Reed-Warblers and Little Friarbirds.

A very unwelcome sight & experience was a close encounter with a Red-bellied Black Snake near the sailing club. I(Norma) was observing some birds when Wes grabbed me away, as my next step might have
been my last, a very unnerving ordeal for me.
