Little Shrike-Thrush

Post by Michael Wood »

This morning (16/3/2013) a Little Shrike-Thrush was seen well (as close as two or three metres) in Redwood Park. It was present in the area where if one comes down from the Bridge Street entrance, down the rock steps through the dark rainforest, and out where there is a much flatter, relatively expansive area directly before one reaches the old zoo fence and gate (I think the gate may now be missing.)

Also, two Zoothera spp. (thrush) were seen in the same area. I observed both fairly well, even having them in the same field of view at one stage, but at no stage would they behave and show their backsides to me. They were, however, calling fairly regularly. I believe they were Russet-tailed Thrushes but cannot be absolutely certain.
