Freckled Duck & Pallid Cuckoo

Post by Mick Atzeni »

My first trip to the Wyreema Sewage Treatment plant since being inducted in June, proved very fruitful this morning. For Glenda Fitzgerald, who accompanied me, it was a very successful induction. She picked up three lifers.

Black-tailed Native-hen (2) and Freckled Duck (1) were the two most significant sightings. To the best of my knowledge, these are the first local records up-range; all past records have been down in the Helidon area. I hadn't seen a Freckled Duck in the survey area since the 1980s.

Also picked up a Pallid Cuckoo (immature) and Little Grassbird, and further along Love Rd, a Horsfield's Bushlark.

Cheers
Mick
