Autumn on Sunshine Coast

Post by Russ Lamb »

Braved the continuing showers to have a look at Ewan Maddock Dam at Landsborough yesterday (Sat 9/3). No more mud left, the dam (really a flat reservoir) is now the fullest I've seen in 18 years, thanks to Oswald and a very wet Feb. Got 42 species in half a morning, with hardly any waterbirds at all. Species recorded:
Masked Lapwing
Pacific Black Duck
Whiskered Tern
Little Pied Cormorant
Dusky Moorhen
Purple Swamphen
Australasian Grebe
Darter
Rainbow Lorikeet
White-throated Honeyeater
Noisy Friarbird
Willy Wagtail
White-browed Scrubwren
Red-backed Fairy-wren
Noisy Miner
Scarlet Honeyeater
Latham's Snipe
Comb-crested Jacana
Little Grassbird
Pied Butcherbird
Peaceful Dove
Bar-shouldered Dove
Feral Goose
Brown Honeyeater
Silvereye
Brown Thornbill
Rufous Fantail
Red-browed finch
Golden Whistler
Eastern Yellow robin
Eastern Whipbird
Lewin's Honeyeater
Variegated Fairy-wren
Forest Kingfisher
Brown Cuckoo-Dove
Cicadabird
Little Shrike Thrush
Hardhead
White-faced Heron
Crested Pigeon
Brown Quail
Torresian Crow

Correction

Need to correct tern sighting from Ewan Maddock Dam on 9/3. Should have written Common Tern (NOT Whiskered Tern).
