Winter Rufous Songlark and others

Post by Mick Atzeni »

An unexpected Rufous Songlark at "Tiddalac" this month. First seen on 2nd July, I wasn't able to get a good enough look to be certain. But today I had a good clear look to confirm my suspicions. Didn't call at all and could have been easily overlooked as it fed in an acacia. Usually this species is only a spring/summer visitor - I think this is my first winter record locally - so interested to know if any others are being seen around the traps at the moment.

Another good record for home today was Plum-headed Finch. There were a handful mixing with the resident Double-bars. This is only my third record for home.

Some other additions follow.

Great Cormorant 7/07/13 Lockyer Siding
White-faced Heron 7/07/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
White-necked Heron 7/07/13 Mill Rd, Upper Lockyer
Brown Falcon 7/07/13 Lockyer Siding
Red-backed Fairy-wren 7/07/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Brown-headed Honeyeater 7/07/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Grey-crowned Babbler 5/07/13 Helidon Spa

Cheers

Rufus Songlark

Post by Frances B »

I know this is nowhere near Toowoomba but I have just seen a Rufus Songlark at our property near Tamworth on the 1 July 2013 which I thought was pretty early for here as well.
