Post by Mick Atzeni »

Two recent posts from Birding-Aus which are worth knowing about for future reference. Some great photos too!

I've just added MountainThornbill to my Thornbill Identification website.
I only need two more aussie thornbills now to get the whole set! ; ) (then
to Papua New Guinea!)

Subject: An aid to identifying the 4 larger egrets in Australia.

I have created a photographic aid intended to help in the identification of
the four larger white egrets in Australia.

The image can be seen at
.://..flickr.com/photos/ptiloris463/2509935011/

Please note this identification aid concentrates on the gape.
The birds are not shown in scale in relation to size and the plumages are
representational only.

The birds are shown in similar poses so that the shapes of the bills can be
assessed. However, it should be noted that there has been no attempt to
accurately show any diagnostic differences in bill, head or neck shape, size
or length.

The image is best viewed at "full size" by clicking on the "all sizes"
button at the top-left of the image.
("Full size" = "original size.)
