Zebra and Plum-headed Finches

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

The green panicum is lush and seeding along road verges in the Lockyer Valley at present; chock-a-block with finches, cisticolas, Brown Quail, Clamorous Reed-warblers and Tawny Grassbirds. Yesterday Mick Atzeni and I recorded Zebra Finch and Plum-heads at Grantham for the Summer Beyond list. Plenty of Double-bars throughout and a pair of Chestnut-breasted Mannikins just west of Grantham.

Wandering Whistling-Ducks are all over the Lockyer Valley presently. Yesterday we saw them at Boxmore Stud, Colquhoun's Road Dam, Peachey Swamp, Karrasch's Dam, Lowe's Road Dam and Janke's Lagoon. Fifteen of this species seen at Lake Broadwater near Dalby SEQ on 18.12.08 and five of the species at Oakey abattoirs dam on the same afternoon.

Regards,
Rod Hobson
