Squatter Pigeons near Warwick

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

On a drive to a meeting in Stanthorpe this morning I saw some nice birds including two new species for the 'Summer Beyond - 2008/09' list. The first was of a pair of Squatter Pigeons on the roadside at the junction of Ford Road and the New England Highway just south of Warwick. The second was of a couple of Eastern Rosellas in Dalveen township. I had detoured into Dalveen to look for the Common Blackbirds that I'd seen there on the June 15, 2008 but didn't find them today despite a pretty thorough look. I did see some other interesting birds there though including a female Satin Bowerbird, one Red Wattlebird, a female Australian King Parrot, several Grey-crowned Babblers and one Red-winged Parrot. A bit later I also saw five Yellow-tailed Black Cockattos in a dead tree near Thulimbah. An enjoyable morning's car-based birdwatching; pity about the meeting that followed.
