Blue-winged Kookaburra et al.

Post by Mick Atzeni »

The TBO outing on 25/7 was in the Lockyer Valley and led by John Hadley and three additional species for winter (those bolded below) were amongst the 90-odd species recorded, including the Blue-winged Kookaburra - a lifer for some and always a goodie this far south.

John reported:
We met and enjoyed the company of 14 members and one new birder at Lake Apex, Gatton. We then proceeded to Adare where on arrival we had a reception of 7 Yellow-tailed Black-cockatoos feeding on pine cones and calling. Then down to the creek area in perfect weather conditions. Numerous honeyeaters and other bush birds were heard and seen after 3 hours of great birding we headed for Jahnke Lagoon to pick up a few waterbirds and nesting Whistling Kite. Then on to Lake Clarendon for lunch and Blue-winged Kookaburra.
