Red Wattlebird at Murphy's Creek

Post by Wes & Norma Sturdee »

Hi Mick
In reply to your query re Red Wattlebird at Murphy's Creek, I spotted it in a large figtree not far from the cemetery on Kherim Road. This tree, along with a pine tree were located in the yard of an abandoned cottage. There was a lot of activity there with plenty of Figbirds, Olive-backed Orioles and a lone Koel attracted to the very small fruit on the figtree. While observing all this activity and checking for other birds, I noticed a Red Wattlebird feeding among the others.
As this bird is very familiar to me, I would be 100% certain of its ID.
Thanks also for checking on our donation to Unleaded Petrels - I've now cancelled original cheque and sent a new one as advised.
Cheers, Norma
