Christmas Day addition - Yellow-tufted Honeyeater

Post by Mick Atzeni »

First bird I saw this morning was the bush-hen out in the open, and it showed well for about 4 minutes. Soon after a young Swamp Wallaby put in an appearance on my side of the creek below the cottage, a resident species I rarely see, particularly since the January flood.

Riding my luck, and with only 6 days left for the Challenge, I decided to search for Yellow-tufted Honeyeaters where I'd seen them in the past, about 1km along Thomas Rd, Upper Lockyer, about 700m from "Tiddalac". I'd looked there a couple of times already this year without success. No sign of them initially, and was about to head home, then glimpsed some likely suspects in the bushland on the opposite side of the railway tracks. These turned out to be my quarry. Good when things come toegether. A few Fuscous Honeyeaters around too: nothing unusual about that, but the first local report for summer.

Some early-morning Christmas bonuses. Nature's gifts. :D

Cheers
Mick
