Provided flooding rains don't spoil the party again, only slackness will prevent us nailing 230+ species this year.

Two Belated Additions: Topknot Pigeon and Red Goshawk

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

Some late additions to "The Challenge - 2012" viz. Red Goshawk and Topknot Pigeon. Details as follow:

Red Goshawk (adult male) - Prince Henry Drive, Toowoomba SEQ at GDA94 - 56J E401026 x N6952231; +/- 200 metres; mid-morning around 10.30am, 08.04.12. Bird flying to the east towards Withcott.

Topknot Pigeon (flock of approx. six birds overhead) - Sawpit Gully Road, Rockmount SEQ at GDA94 - S27.69222 x E152.05731; +/- 50 metres, 13.05.12. Seen from road through break in canopy.

Some other sightings of interest lately:

White-winged Fairy-wren, small flock of about three or four birds in African Boxthorn, Bowenville-Norwin Road, Bowenville on 28.03.12 - a good eastern record for this species. Three Zebra Finch present there as well; both species new for "Autumn - Beyond 2012", also, I believe.

Peregrine Falcon, 1 x adult female, 1 x adult male, in flight and perched, Ballin Park, Toowoomba on afternoon of 01.04.12

White-headed Pigeon x 6 at corner of Rowbotham and Mackenzie Streets, Toowoomba, afternoon of 18.05.12

White-headed Pigeon x 5 near corner of Mary and Ruthven Streets, Toowoomba, morning of 29.04.12

Regards,
