Ground Cuckoo-shrike and others

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Kylie, Olive, Claire Hanney, new members Ross and Margie Easton and I wound up our Raptor Census in the western quadrant on Saturday (29/6) with three Ground Cuckoo-shrikes in Bridge St near Boundary Rd intersection, Torrington.

Four Pink-eared Duck on dam at the old Gainsborough Lodge site (now the site for new airport) were another unexpected bonus as rarely reported in any of our western grids (grid W2 in this case). Incidentally, saw another 14 Pink-eareds at Helidon Spa the next day. Unusual for there as well.

A few more from around home:

Plumed Whistling-Duck 30/06/13 Helidon Spa
Pacific Black Duck 30/06/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Hardhead 30/06/13 Helidon Spa
Australasian Grebe 30/06/13 Helidon Spa
Little Pied Cormorant 30/06/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Eurasian Coot 30/06/13 Helidon Spa
White-throated Treecreeper 30/06/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Weebill 30/06/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Buff-rumped Thornbill 30/06/13 Mill Rd, Upper Lockyer
Jacky Winter 30/06/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Grey Shrike-thrush 30/06/13 "Tiddalac", Upper Lockyer
Red-browed Finch 30/06/13 Mill Rd, Upper Lockyer

And as reported under the Challenge, Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater seen by Diana Beal 30/06/13 in Magpie Lane, Gowrie Junction

Cheers
Mick
