Post by Russ Lamb »

Along with birding mates Ken Cross and Steve McBride we headed west on Sat 5/10 for 4 days birding at Bowra.By the time we reached Bowra we'd racked-up 125 species. Our time at Bowra gave us exactly 100, and the drive home a remarkable 145, as we spent the last day birding the Lockyer Valley, and around Kilcoy, Woodford and Stanmore. All-up we reached 197 species in the 7 days.
Species seen which fell within the geographical boundaries of Spring Beyond included:

Hoary-headed Grebe, Karrach's Lagoon 11/10
Cotton Pygmy-Goose, Villeneuve, 11/10
Black-tailed Native-hen, Karrachs's Lagoon, 11/10
Red-necked Avocet, Lake Galletly 11/10
Latham's Snipe, Villeneuve, 11/10
Whiskered Tern, Lake Apex,Gatton 11/10
Buff-rumped Thornbill, Gatton FR, 11/10
Inland Thornbill, Lake Broadwater, 5/10
Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater, Lake Broadwater, 5/10
Masked Woodswallow, Lake Broadwater, 5/10

An unsuccessful trip to Bribie Is on Tues 15/10 to see the Oriental Plover and Broad-billed Sandpiper at least added:
Crested Tern, Kakadu Roost
Little Lorikeet, Buckley's Hole
Mangrove Gerygone, Buckley's Hole

And we saw an Australasian Pipit near Maleny on the 13/10
