North Coast sightings

Why should the locals have all the fun? To give those of you who don't live in the Toowoomba area an incentive to report your sightings and strut your stuff, here's a challenge especially for you! 250 species collectively in a season. The survey area we'll make anywhere within 250 km of Toowoomba, but excluding the TBO survey area. I've set a higher, but very fair target as well. See how you go. Locals can help with the 'outside' tally too and vice versa. Looking forward to some new names on the forum!

North Coast sightings

Post by Mick Atzeni »

Just back from a week at Caloundra 17-24 Jan. Some newies were:

Sooty Oystercatcher - daily on the headland at Dicky Beach. Photographed
Osprey - daily, Moffatt Beach
Peregrine Falcon - daily, Moffat Beach, hunting the rainbow lorikeets on dusk. Was still flying around as late as 7:10pm on evening!

From Mary Cairncross Park near Maleny, 24.01.07:

Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove - plenty calling; saw about five all up.
Noisy Pitta - one call heard.

Other species of interest were Wompoo Fruit-Dove (nesting near Marker No.8), White-th Needletail, Large-billed Scrubwren, Brown Gerygone, Yellow-throated Scrubwren, Logrunner, Green Catbird, Russet-tailed Thrush.
