Historical Records of Powerful Owl

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

I've just stumbled on a couple of historical records of Powerful Owl from around SEQ that may be of interest. Silvester Diggles (1875g) records the occasional shooting of the species 'near Brisbane' whilst Rowland Illidge (1922) records the owl from the Melaleuca swamps of Stradbroke Island. These records are quoted by Queensland Museum employee and good friend Greg Czechura in 'Focus on Stradbroke' (1984) edited by R.J.Coleman, J.Covacevich and P.Davie, Boolarong Publications, Brisbane.

References:

Diggles, S. (1875g). Birds of Australia VII. 'Queenslander' June 12:6.

Illidge, R. (1922). Birds of Stradbroke Island noted during long holiday
excursions from about 1869-1880. 'Qld. Nat.' 3(6): 107-10.
