Painted Button-quail and Red-tailed Black Cockies

Post by Rod Hobson »

Folks,

During a late afternoon dog-walk yesterday I found a very recently dead male Painted Button-quail on the footpath in front of 17 South Street, Toowoomba at 56J - S 27.58300 deg, E 151.98407 deg. I suspect that the bird had been struck by a vehicle during the very misty and overcast morning. I have found some strange birds in the Toowoomba city and suburban areas after foggy weather that have obviously become disoriented flying in these weather conditions. Species have included Purple Swamphen, Purple-crowned Fruit-Pigeon, Buff-banded Rail, Brown Quail, Red-chested Button-quail and other Painted Button-quail.

During yesterday's walk I also saw four Red-tailed Black Cockatoos flying towards the south-west over Rangeville Park at 56J - E 27.58542, E 151.97873 about 4.30pm.

Regards,
Rod Hobson
