Hi Mick

As we discussed.

Yesterday, Sue Scanlan found a dead Rose crowned fruit dove on our lawn at 19 Nichols Road Highfields. It had been killed and partially eaten by an unknown predator.

Joe also showed me pictures confirming the ID. It was an adult. Coloured crown was obvious in photos but body plumage wasn't. One interesting and helpful feature was that the tops of the otherwise greyish feet are green; the similar Superb Fruit-dove has red feet.

A rarely reported species locally, and the first I've heard of from Highfields. My handful of records have all been from Redwood Park.

Thanks Joe and Sue.

Cheers

Mick
